There can be few more florid examples of government waste than paying middle-class women to sit in offices telling working people to eat five portions of fruit and veg a day!   The nanny state gone mad.  

Most people are stunned when they hear that a local authority has advertised for one of these posts.  They have no idea that these are not isolated examples of loony left councils, but part of mainstream government activity.   There are 66 such post at present across the country, each funded for two years.   The salary is about £30k each, £40k with superannuation and national Insurance, and maybe £60k when the costs of office space etc. are included.

That adds up to £3,960,000 just to pay the employees of the programme for two years.  How many civil servants dreamed up the programme, and how many university salaries provided pseudo-scientific support for it.
