We often despair at the environmental damage caused by mining and industrialisation, so it is useful to occasionally remind ourselves that, horrible as such damage can be, nature is strong and recovers quickly.  

The Garw valley is a good example.  This small ex-mining valley in Mid Glamorgan in South Wales has changed over the last 30 years from an industrial mining village to a mainly commuter village with a small amount of light industry.  The damage from the mining has now almost disappeared.
