An extract from a private letter to the editor from a friend who is traveling with his wife and seven young children in Mexico.   The reference to MacDonald's was not intended for publication.

"We arrived in Mexico city at midnight, always a bit scary in a strange town. Managed to find a minibus taxi, or rather it found us, and got to the hostel about 1am.  Place in charge of v. friendly security guard who had less English than I have Spanish.  Anyway  he fixed us a 6 bed dorm and we just about fitted in. Great location but shame about the plumbing. Brings back memories of the Iqbal in Nairobi.

The children have been living in McDonalds.  I am a real convert. Wherever we go in the world we always find a Mc´ers, clean toilets, cheapest coffee and something for the children.  I don´t know how we would manage without them.
L and I are trying to be a bit more adventurous, had some excellent tacos tonight."
