The Prison Fellowship was founded in the United States in 1976 by Charles W. Colson, chief counsel for President Richard Nixon, following his release from prison for his part in the "Watergate" crime. It is now an international network of Christians who support prisoners, ex prisoners and their families. It's workers believe that the real solution to crime is ultimately not to be found through therapeutic interventions, institutional regimes, or legislative reform, but through spiritual renewal. Like all the best civil organisations it does not call for state aid but gets on with the job. By keeping independent of governments, it encourages diverse methods and views.
