In 1942 a Halifax bomber crashed testing ground mapping radar crashed on the bak of the river Wye near welsh Bicknor killing all eleven on board. Among the dead was one of the pioneers of radar Alan Blumlein. Fifty years later this memorial window was unveiled in the ancient chapel in nearby Goodrich castle. It is a fine memorial to some brave and inventive men. I'm not so sure about the Millennium memorial window opposite. But perhaps I just don't like modern art paid for by a regressive tax on the poor, the national lottery fund. |
