River Maun cliffs

A mile or so north of Clipstone, the river Maun, after which the town of Mansfield is named, has cut a rock cliff on its south bank, exposing the Bunter pebble beds or Nottingham Castle sandstone.

It is interesting for geologists because the exposure has just caught the level where the pebble beds here lie directly on top of the Lenton sandstone.

Here is the border (I think).

It is a lovely spot.  Someone has built up an embankment opposite the cliffs preventing the river following its natural meander and creating a series of fishing pools.
