The Ploughing Match

Visitors who spend their time around the main rings may think that the "Southwell Ploughing Match and Show", to give it its full title, is much like any other agricultural show.  If so they are missing the most distinctive part the ploughing match and related agricultural events.

Soon after dawn the ploughmen assemble in the mist.

The first furrow must be straight.

Two packs of fox hounds came to the show.

Now hunting illegally, if they hunt at all.  

What was this country thinking of when we let parliament ban fox hunting?  What other country would destroy its heritage like that?  The French wouldn't, nor the Spanish, so why did we?
