Aldwark
Bridge, between Little Ouseburn and Aldwark / Linton on
Ouse. North Yorkshire. |
In
1772 an Act of Parliament was granted for the building of a bridge across the
River Ure to replace the ferry, which was not usable in bad weather conditions.
The current toll for cars has recently gone up and now (Dec 2002) is
15p. Thanks to Tim Elwess, who had to make a 25 mile diversion due
to having no change, for this information. It just shows that tolls
are not always green. And shame on the toll keeper for not letting him
through with a promise to pay next time he passed. (Since
August 2005 the toll has been 40p. Thanks to Keith Renicor.)

Sadly
the Skye tolls ended in 2004. This is strictly now a "toll bridge
in the past". Click here.
Thanks
to Ian Jolly for correcting my earlier muddle over the Briwet and
Penmaenpool bridges.
