The Union of Concerned Scientists usually fusses about impending global climate change.  However, it reckons that it has more chance of influencing local politicians in the US than George Bush just now, so it's taken to issuing local climate predictions.

On 8th May 2003 the scientists predicted that local temperatures in the area around the Great Lakes will warm by 3-7oC in winter and 3-12oC in summer.   In 30 years summer in Illinois would feel like summer in Oklahoma today.  By the end of the century it would feel like summer in Texas.
