The Welsh Rivers: the complete guidebook to canoeing and
kayaking the rivers of Wales. By
Chris Sladden. 1998 Chris Sladden is a fairly typical general practitioner in
that he can’t understand why the free-market would offer better medical care
than the National Health Service does! However,
he’s untypical in being not only a brave canoeist but also a great writer
about canoeing. This is his guide
to all those funny rivers with unpronounceable names.
ch river section is mapped in
detail and and described with humour. Serious
white water enthusiasts will get everything they need. Unfortunately his book is no help to my canoeing
trips. I’m a touring canoeist. He
stops and goes home, just where I put in, at Pool Quay for example on the
Severn! Nevertheless people
like me can still enjoy reading about the scary bits of the river while we’re
sitting in the pub! Perhaps
that’s why he put in lots of glossy pictures.
It’s a great canoeing guide. Jim Thornton 12 Feb 2002 The Welsh Rivers: the complete guidebook to canoeing and kayaking the rivers of Wales. By Chris Sladden. 1998 £15.95 from Chris Sladden books. ISBN 0-9516147-2-X Obtainable from Cordee. 3a De Montfort Street, Leicester LE1 7HD. |
