Windmills

iGreens love wind power.  But we object to modern wind farms, which only exist because of government subsidy.  Not because they are unsightly, although they often are.   But because they provide insignificant power, waste valuable fossil fuel in their construction and maintenance, and divert attention from what eventually must be the solution to global warming - nuclear power.

Each of these windmills was the local power station of its day.   Functional, fitted to its location, each with minor variations as designers tested their ideas - they are beautiful machines.   Many now lovingly restored and tended by enthusiasts.

When sanity returns, and we discover our hillsides covered in broken steel and rotting concrete, I doubt the same will happen to many modern wind farms.

Just a few of the existing windmills in Britain.
