By Karel Sloan
With the Naked Eye, a new work, helps us see nature through many different
lenses, as living creatures, as
insects, as humans, as scientists, as trees, as beings.
Karel Sloan is also an evacuee from New Orleans, Louisiana, USA currently
staying in Memphis, TN and volunteering at a
hospital that was also evacuated from the New Orleans area. As of now, her
apartment is no longer standing and her landlord reports you need a boat to get
to where it used to be.
As a published environmental writer, she decided to do book signing benefits
partly to honor her home, the city of New Orleans, and, because she wants to do
something for all of those struggling to put their lives back together.
She also think it is important for those living through this to realize that
although they are victims, they don't have to be powerless. She has
already donated her entire August royalties check to the Red Cross, and will
continue to donate half of all royalties from sales to relief efforts.
With the Naked Eye helps people to pause and question the categories in which
they place the natural world around them. With the Naked Eye's personal
ponderings can be used as a catalyst for others' personal journeys back to a
connective space with nature.

Personally I find what I've read of With the Naked Eye rather woolly
and wordy, and a bit too sentimental about nature for my taste. But
everyone differs. iGreens are happy to publicise it.
