Dear Professor Thornton,
Last night, again on the BBC, Henry Kissinger had to take a BBC reporter to
task for implying America somehow deserved its fate in the question, "Do
you
think America should reconsider a foreign policy that stirs up such hatred
in the world?" Similar questions are populating the evening news in
practically every country on the continent. At a weekend cocktail party Being a foreign language-challenged American, I never knew previously the full, true, and bitter meaning of schadenfreude. I don't know which is worse - raw and blind hatred or those who hide behind the inauthentic and not so shiny veneer of intellectual objectivity. And it all boils down to just one thing, the most base of our basic human traits - jealousy. It would be laughable, if it were not so sad. The smoke of
burning flesh and steel may be covering New York, but the powerful stench of
envy blankets the whole of the Earth. As a Chinese wise man once said, "The
dog with the bone is always in danger." Dear Sir, Your comments (14 Sept) are appreciated. America is not anti Islamic. In both Bosnia and Kosovo, Western forces, led by America, intervened on the side of Muslims who were being attacked by Christians. Name withheld
